So, when a deep, resonant chime echoed through the house at precisely midnight, Elias didn’t just freeze; he stopped breathing. He counted the heavy, vibrating gongs. Ten… Eleven… Twelve… Silence settled for a microsecond. Then, the hammer struck the bell one final time.
Thirteen. Elias slowly turned toward the hallway, knowing full well that time had just run out.
